Why Do You Need Link building (backlinks)?
Search engines like Google, bing, AOL etc. rely a lot on backlinks for a number of reasons. The first question we need to answer is what are links do on the internet? When different pages are linked – connected together tell the spiders (crawlers) that there are more pages out there that should be indexed.
Let’s have an example. You have a tottaly new website but no one links to it, you don’t even submit it to Google and other search engines, not social media. How do you expect it to be found from the search engine crawlers and get indexed? It can’t be! However, if another website or blog links to your site, a search engine spider can crawl that link and discover your site. That’s the first importance of backlinks.
Now let’s take a closer look to Search engine optimization (SEO) of your web page. Links As you may know, Google is using his ranking algorith to rank different pages according to how important it thinks they are. Let’s make things even more simple. If you wanted to watch a movie, which one would you prefer? A movie that noone knows about it, haven;t ever heard it’s title etc. or a movie that all your friends are talking of? The answer is very clear. This is how backlinks work too. Which pages does google think that are important to get ranked higher? A page that “no one talks about it” or a website that many high authority pages link to it? That’s te easiest explanation of the importance of backlinks in SEO. The more pages with high authority link to you, the more google thinks that your page is very important and get higher and higher to SERPs.
The best think is also the content of the page that links to you, must be relevant to your content. You may acquire a backlinks from a low authority page but beacause o the content’s relevance, the power that hold that link may be higher than a backlink in a high authority page with a content much different than yours. Google’s algorithms are so complex that a link’s relevance will be just as important as its source.
Till now, with all of Google’s contextual search updates,
backlinks are still one of the most important ranking signals.
